Visit Cayo Costa FL
We had a great family reunion on Gulf Island Tour's boat, the " H2O Limo" and decided to visit Cayo Costa for this full day trip. We met up at Fisherman's Village in Punta Gorda and had a great time exploring the neat shops and then grabbed some sandwiches to go from Harpoon Harry's. Captain Stuart met up with his brother from Clearwater, Florida, who is also a boat Captain and we fueled up the boat and got ice there at Fisherman's Village for our visit to Cayo Costa. We had a wonderful trip out to Gasparilla Island fishing at the Boca Grande pass. It is always amazing to see manatees and pods of dolphins and all the wildlife brimming around Cayo Costa State Park. When you visit Cayo Costa, you can expect it to look like the perfect "tropic island nest" like where "Gilligan's Island" could have been filmed. The water clarity and color were a bit churned up because the remnants of hurricane Karen were still active in the Gulf of Mexico (though far away from us in South West Florida.) It was still a beautiful, sunny day and the water was warm and calm plus the fishing and wildlife viewing was phenomenal. Some Red Snapper, Drum and Spanish Mackeral were all among our catches of the day! Cruising the calm waters, we came upon a wonderful sandbar between Cayo Costa and Gasparilla Island and let our dogs run free! On this side of Cayo Costa, the wind was blocked and there was beautiful clear water all around the isolated sandbar along with many bird species. We found a lot of gorgeous seashells like whole sand dollars, whelks, and even a large live lightning conch. It's always so much fun to visit Cayo Costa!!! As we cruised back to Punta Gorda, the low lying remnant cumulous clouds made for a stunning Florida sunset! After retruning to Punta Gorda and had a wonderful late dinner at Dean's South of the Border restaurant, just a few steps from where the H2O Limo was docked that day at Laishley's Park & Marina.
